MEALIME IS CLOSING
The Mealime Alternative for Walmart Shoppers
Mealime's last day is October 21, 2026, and the replacement it points you to, Meals Hub, lives inside Albertsons Companies grocery apps. That is fine if you shop Safeway or Jewel-Osco. If you shop Walmart, you are losing the Walmart handoff Mealime used to give you. Here is what actually replaces it, how to keep your recipes, and an honest look at every option — including ours.

The short answer
Mealime announced it will shut down on October 21, 2026. Its successor, Meals Hub, is free but built into Albertsons Companies store apps (Safeway, Vons, Jewel-Osco, ACME and others), so it doesn't shop Walmart. Walmart shoppers can switch to eMeals, Samsung Food or Plan to Eat to keep a Mealime-style recipe-and-list app, or to MindyCart, which goes furthest: Mindy plans the week with you and fills your Walmart cart for you to claim and check out.
- Mealime deletes personal data at shutdown and doesn't describe moving accounts — save your favorites before October 21.
- MindyCart is $19/month after a 7-day free trial; it shops Walmart only and never takes grocery payment.
What is happening to Mealime
Mealime's closing page says the app “will be discontinued as of October 21, 2026,” and points users to Meals Hub, which it describes as available in Albertsons Companies grocery apps and run by the same team. Albertsons acquired Mealime in 2021. According to the same page:
- Meals Hub is free, including the recipes that used to sit behind Mealime Pro, and it carries every Mealime recipe.
- Pro subscribers won't be charged again before the shutdown.
- Mealime doesn't describe moving your account — you sign in to an Albertsons Companies store app and set preferences again.
- All Mealime personal data is deleted when the app shuts down.
- Without an Albertsons Companies store nearby, you can still browse recipes, build meal plans and generate shopping lists in Meals Hub.
Why Walmart shoppers lose the most
Mealime's own getting-started guide says it “integrates with Kroger, Walmart Grocery, Amazon Fresh and Instacart.” Its Walmart flow walked you through your list one ingredient at a time, searched Walmart for each one, and had you pick the product and amount before checking out. Meals Hub replaces that with shopping inside Albertsons Companies apps. Nothing on the closing page describes a way to send a Meals Hub list to Walmart — so if Walmart is where you buy groceries, a list is the most Meals Hub can give you.
If you shop an Albertsons store, Meals Hub is the easy answer
It's free, it has all your Mealime recipes, and it's built by the same team. Switch to it. The rest of this page is for people whose grocery store is Walmart.

Mealime alternatives for Walmart shoppers, compared
Every competitor cell below comes from that company's own website or help center, checked October 12, 2026 (see Sources).
| App | Walmart | Who builds the cart | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mealime | Yes, until its October 21, 2026 shutdown | You — it searches each ingredient; you pick product and amount | Free; Pro billing ended |
| Meals Hub | No — lives in Albertsons Companies apps | Albertsons store app; elsewhere, a list only | Free |
| eMeals | Yes, plus other grocers | On iOS, it matches your list to in-stock products at your Walmart; you review, then add all with one tap | From $4.99/mo on a 12-month plan; 14-day free trial |
| Plan to Eat | Through its grocery-service handoff | You — choose brands and quantities in the grocery service's window | $5.95/mo or $49/yr; 14-day free trial |
| Samsung Food | Yes (listed US store) | It matches products and sends items to the store basket | Free planner; Samsung Food+ $6.99/mo |
| MindyCart | Yes — Walmart only | Mindy, in the background, from your saved Walmart store; you claim the cart and check out | $19/month after a 7-day trial |
The column that matters most for a Mealime refugee is the middle one. eMeals, Samsung Food and Plan to Eat keep the Mealime shape — you choose recipes from their catalog or your own, they make a list, and they help you hand it to a store. MindyCart changes who does the deciding and the shopping: you describe the week, Mindy plans it, and the Walmart cart is already built when you open the link.
Why MindyCart goes furthest for Walmart shoppers
Mealime's best idea was planning recipes that share ingredients so less goes to waste. Mindy does the same thing, but you don't have to build the plan by tapping through a catalog. You chat: how many dinners, what you're in the mood for, what to avoid, which recipes of your own to include. Mindy proposes meals one at a time as cards, scaled to the household size you set at signup, and you swap anything you don't want. When you approve the plan, she merges shared ingredients into one shopping list organized by grocery section. You can remove items, change quantities, mark items organic or add a one-off extra. Then she builds the cart at your saved Walmart store in the background and sends you a link.
What Mindy does
- Plans the week in chat, from her ideas or your own recipes
- Picks meals with overlapping ingredients and merges them into one list
- Builds the Walmart cart from your saved store and sends a claim link
- Keeps recipe cards on your phone for cooking
What stays with you
- Logging in to your own Walmart.com account
- Reviewing the cart before you pay
- Choosing pickup or delivery at checkout
- Paying Walmart — MindyCart never takes grocery payment
Who it's for
Walmart shoppers who liked Mealime's planning and want the cart built for them, not just a list to work through item by item.

When another option is the better pick
- You shop Safeway, Vons, Jewel-Osco, ACME or another Albertsons Companies store: use Meals Hub. It's free and has all of Mealime's recipes.
- You want to stay free: Samsung Food's meal planner is free and lists Walmart among its US stores. Meals Hub is free too, though for a Walmart shopper it stops at a list.
- You split groceries across several stores: eMeals works with Walmart, Kroger, Amazon Fresh, Instacart, Albertsons and Safeway, and Plan to Eat hands lists to grocery services. MindyCart is Walmart only.
- You mostly want a recipe box: Plan to Eat is built around saving recipes from any website and planning them on a calendar, for $5.95 a month or $49 a year.
- You want to pick every product yourself: eMeals' review-then-add screen and Samsung Food's product matching keep more of that in your hands.
What happens to your Mealime recipes and data
Mealime's recipes themselves aren't disappearing — Mealime says all of them continue in Meals Hub, and its recipe pages are on mealime.com/recipes today. What goes away is your account: your favorites, plans and settings. The closing FAQ says all personal data is deleted at shutdown, that preferences have to be set up again in Meals Hub, and it doesn't mention an export tool. So before October 21, 2026:
- Open your Favorites tab and decide which recipes you'd actually cook again.
- Save a link to each one. On iPhone, Mealime's help center says you can open a recipe, tap the more button and use the share icon. Send the link to yourself or a notes app.
- Print or save to PDF anything you want offline. Mealime says printing works from its web app (not the phone apps) via the printer icon below a recipe's instructions.
- Screenshot the rest. A screenshot of the ingredient list and steps is enough to rebuild a recipe later.
Bringing those recipes into MindyCart
Mindy can work from a pasted recipe link in chat, and your recipe library takes pasted text or up to five photo pages of a recipe — screenshots included. You review what she read before it's saved, and every saved recipe can be planned into a week and scaled to your household.
Switching from Mealime to MindyCart in 10 minutes
- Save your favorites first (links, printouts or screenshots — see the steps above).
- Sign up with Google or email, set how many people you cook for (1–8), and pick your Walmart store by ZIP code.
- Add the recipes you can't live without. Paste a link into the chat, or add a recipe from text or photos in your recipe library.
- Tell Mindy about the week — how many dinners, cuisines you like, anything to avoid, and which of your saved recipes to include. Add staples and extras while you're there (“grab a bag of chips”).
- Approve the plan. Mindy merges shared ingredients into one list by grocery section. Remove what you already have, adjust quantities, mark items organic.
- Start shopping and go about your day. Mindy builds the cart at your Walmart store in the background and sends you a link when it's ready.
- Claim the cart on Walmart.com, review it, and check out with pickup or delivery. Then cook from the recipe cards on your phone.

Frequently asked questions
Is Mealime shutting down?
Yes. Mealime announced it will shut down on October 21, 2026. Its closing page says the app is being replaced by Meals Hub, a free recipe and meal-planning feature inside Albertsons Companies grocery apps and websites (Safeway, Albertsons, Vons, Jewel-Osco, ACME and other Albertsons banners). Pro subscribers are not charged again before the shutdown.
Does Meals Hub work with Walmart?
Not as a Walmart shopping tool. Meals Hub lives inside Albertsons Companies store apps and websites, and its shopping is built around those stores. Mealime's shutdown FAQ says you can still browse recipes, make meal plans and generate shopping lists in Meals Hub without an Albertsons store nearby, but it does not describe any way to send that list to Walmart.
What's the best Mealime alternative for Walmart shoppers?
If you want the app to do the most of the work, MindyCart: you tell Mindy what kind of week you want, she plans the meals, merges shared ingredients into one list, and fills a cart at your saved Walmart store that you claim and check out yourself ($19/month after a 7-day free trial). If you want to keep picking every recipe yourself, eMeals (Walmart one-tap add on iOS) and Samsung Food (lists Walmart as a US integrated store) are the closest Mealime-style options.
Will I lose my Mealime recipes and favorites?
Mealime says all of its recipes will remain available in Meals Hub, but all personal data is deleted when the app shuts down. Mealime doesn't describe moving your account: you sign in to an Albertsons Companies app and set your preferences and settings again in Meals Hub. Mealime's closing page does not describe an export tool, so save the favorites you care about (share link, printout or screenshot) before October 21, 2026.
Can MindyCart use the recipes I saved from Mealime?
Yes. You can paste a recipe link into the chat with Mindy, or add a recipe to your recipe library by pasting its text or uploading photos of it (up to five pages). Mindy works it into your week, scaled to your household size, and its ingredients land on the same shopping list as everything else.
Does MindyCart shop stores other than Walmart?
No. MindyCart builds carts at Walmart only, using the Walmart store you save at signup. If you shop Albertsons Companies stores, Meals Hub is the free option built for them; if you split your shopping across several grocers, eMeals or Plan to Eat cover more stores.
Does MindyCart pay for my groceries?
No. Mindy builds the cart and sends you a link. You log in to your own Walmart.com account, review the cart, pick pickup or delivery, and pay Walmart yourself. MindyCart never takes grocery payment.
